Rongai Route

A northern Kilimanjaro approach beginning near the Kenya-facing side and descending via Marangu.

Rongai Route overview

Rongai approaches Kilimanjaro from the north. It provides a different landscape progression from southern routes and ultimately connects toward the Kibo summit area before descending on the Marangu side.

How long should you allow?

Longer Rongai itineraries can include time around Mawenzi to improve acclimatisation before moving toward Kibo.

Who does Rongai suit?

It suits trekkers interested in a quieter-feeling northern approach and camping-based mountain travel.
