Mount Meru trekking
Mount Meru rises within Arusha National Park and is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. The trek combines lower forest, open highland terrain and a dramatic crater-rim environment, giving it a very different character from Kilimanjaro.
Why climb Mount Meru?
Meru works as a rewarding standalone mountain journey and can also provide multi-day trekking experience before Kilimanjaro. Trekking takes place inside a national park and follows park procedures, including ranger support.
How it fits a Tanzania itinerary
Arusha is the natural gateway, so Meru can connect efficiently with Northern Tanzania safari destinations or a later Kilimanjaro climb.
High ridge trekking, Arusha National Park scenery and acclimatisation before Kilimanjaro.
Getting thereMount Meru is accessed through Arusha National Park and fits naturally before or after time in Arusha.
Planning noteA ranger accompanies trekking parties in the national park; programme design should allow for the mountain’s steep sections and early summit schedule.
