Pack for changing mountain zones
Kilimanjaro starts in relatively warm lower elevations and finishes in cold, exposed high-altitude conditions. The most useful packing strategy is a flexible layering system rather than one very heavy outfit.
Core clothing
Plan moisture-managing base layers, insulating mid-layers, a warm outer layer, waterproof jacket and trousers, trekking socks, gloves, a warm hat and sun protection. Avoid testing brand-new boots on the mountain.
Daypack essentials
Carry water, rain protection, snacks, sun protection, headlamp, personal medication and layers needed during the day. Porter-carried luggage should be packed separately according to the final operator guidance.
Cold summit night
Summit night requires the warmest combination of layers, reliable gloves, head protection, headlamp and footwear that keeps your feet warm and stable on loose or frozen terrain.
Before you fly
Confirm the final equipment list with Cruize because route, season, rental availability and the confirmed mountain programme can affect what you need to bring.
