Marangu Route overview
Marangu is Kilimanjaro’s best-known hut route. Trekkers sleep at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo huts rather than tented camps. The trail approaches from the southeast and is also used for descent by some northern approaches.
Why the extra acclimatisation day matters
A six-day version typically adds an acclimatisation day around Horombo. The mountain remains a serious high-altitude challenge even though the walking trail is established.
Who does Marangu suit?
It appeals to travellers who strongly prefer hut accommodation, but route choice should still be based on pace and acclimatisation rather than comfort labels.
