Although the Great Migration is a major reason many travellers visit, Serengeti is a year-round wildlife destination. Resident predators, plains game and varied landscapes make it worth more than a rushed transit night.

How to combine Serengeti

Most northern road safaris connect Serengeti with the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Tarangire and Lake Manyara can be added earlier in the route from Arusha, while longer itineraries may use domestic flights to reduce drive time.

Understanding the Serengeti regions

Serengeti is not one small game-drive zone. Central Serengeti is a reliable base for varied resident wildlife and access in several directions. Northern Serengeti becomes especially important during parts of the migration cycle, while the western corridor and southern short-grass plains have their own seasonal roles.

For a first safari with limited time, concentrating on one or two areas can create more wildlife time and less daily relocation.

The Great Migration is a continuous ecosystem-wide movement rather than a scheduled event in one fixed place. Rainfall, grazing conditions and river levels influence where large herds may be found. No operator can guarantee a crossing or exact herd location on a specific day.

Use historical seasonal patterns to choose the most suitable area, then allow enough time for wildlife viewing rather than building the whole trip around one predicted moment.

No. Serengeti has resident wildlife throughout the year. Migration patterns add a seasonal layer, but predators and plains game make the park valuable outside peak migration periods as well.

Can a river crossing be guaranteed?

No. Wildlife movement and river crossings are natural events influenced by rainfall, grazing and herd behaviour. We can plan around the most suitable seasonal area, but a specific crossing cannot be guaranteed.

How many nights should I spend in Serengeti?
